Acupuncture & Head Pain Research Studies
Acupuncture is an effective pain treatment with no side-effects or contraindications. We add studies below on an ongoing basis as new research is conducted. If you wish to have a study added to our list, please contact us.
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD/TMD) Studies
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your lower jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.
Oral myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS / CMP) Studies
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), also known as chronic myofascial pain (CMP), is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain in multiple myofascial trigger points ("knots") and fascial (connective tissue) constrictions. Oral MPS occurs in and around the oral cavity, the mouth.
Trigeminal Neuralgia Studies
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN or TGN) is a chronic pain disorder that affects the trigeminal nerve. There are two main types: typical and atypical trigeminal neuralgia. The typical form results in episodes of severe, sudden, shock-like pain in one side of the face that lasts for seconds to a few minutes. The atypical form results in a constant burning pain that is less severe. Both forms may occur in the same person.
Headache & Migraine Studies
A headache is any pain located in the head, with known or unknown etiology. A migraine is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe.
